We have loved hearing that some guests are using our wedding as an excuse for a Northumberland get away. With that in mind, here are some of our recommendations for anyone staying on for a few days after the festivities.

Best Walks

Hadrian's Wall

Sadly without the Sycamore, the undisputed most dramatic walk in the UK. Go to Steel Rig for the best place to start.

Duke's House Wood

At the top of Hexham, a favourite for anyone with dogs to get a run in. Be careful of the ants!

Allen Banks

One of the best spots for swimming in Northumberland, if it is warm enough!

The Victorian Tap, Hexham

A local classic, reliably best beer choice in Hexham.

The Tannery, Hexham

Trendy, hipster, noisy but still a very good time.

The Angel, Corbridge

Slightly more upmarket (with London prices), great food & beer.

Saathi, Hexhams

Best Indian food in Hexham, if you go in-person be prepared for huge portion sizes.

Paxtons, Fish & Chips

For those coming from abroad who want a British classic look no further.

Carts Bog Inn, Hexhamshire

Proper pub food, in the middle of nowhere. Remember to take 50p for the pool table.

Must See Sights

Hexham Abbey

Speaks for itself, well worth a look around. Highly recommend going to the crypt.

Vindolanda

Any Roman site is worth it, but if you have to pick one go to Vindolanda - the bath house.

Bamburgh Castle

A bit further afield is Bamburgh Castle, the most dramatic beach (and cricket ground) in the country.
